Rosario lost his arbitration case against the Rockies and will make $2.8 million for the 2015 season, The Denver Post reports.Rosario struggled offensively in 2014, batting just .267/.305/.435 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI over 106 games. He worked out at first base and in the outfield during the Rockies' academy in the Dominican Republic, and could end up losing his job behind the plate due to his defensive woes and drop in production (along with the addition of Nick Hundley). He will need show a improvement at the plate in spring training to earn himself more playing time, but he also could wind up as a utility man in 2015, limiting his at-bats and his fantasy value.

Rosario was working out at first base and in the outfield at the Rockies' academy in the Dominican Republic earlier this month, MLB.com's Thomas Harding reports. Despite Rosario's minimal improvement as a backstop across four seasons in the majors, the Rockies don't seem to be cutting bait entirely on the idea of him serving as a catcher for the club. Even so, it's clear that after this winter's signing of Nick Hundley, Rosario no longer appears to be the club's primary catcher, forcing him to showcase his versatility to play other positions in an attempt to augment his value. It's probably for the best that Rosario spends more time at a position where his defense might be less of a focal point, but from a fantasy perspective, the probable downgrade in at-bats that would come with a utility role dampens his outlook. Rosario hasn't helped his cause by seeing his offensive production plummet in successive seasons since his 28-homer 2012 campaign, with his OPS dropping to a career-worst .739 in 2014.

Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Tuesday that Rosario could be used as the right-handed hitting platoon partner for Justin Morneau at first base. Although he appeared at first base in just four games last season, the Rockies are undoubtedly seeking ways to keep his bat in the lineup without overexposing their team defense by leaning too heavily on Rosario behind the plate. A hand injury sapped Rosario's power last season, but the departure of Michael Cuddyer in free agency could help him return to the neighborhood of 450 at-bats again.

Rosario is out of the lineup Monday against the Padres. Manager Walt Weiss will have the scorching-hot Rosario take a seat Monday, with Mike McKenry getting the nod at catcher. Rosario racked up 14 hits while playing in five of the Rockies' seven games during their recently-completed homestand, but his bat could cool with the team set to close the season in pitcher-friendly environments in San Diego and Los Angeles.

Rosario went 2-for-3 with three runs and a walk in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks. There might not have been a better performer over the past week than Rosario, who went 14-for-20 with two homers, nine RBI and eight runs scored while making five starts in the last seven games. The surge has allowed Rosario to make a 24-point climb in batting average during that time, but he'll be hard-pressed to maintain his torrid ways over the final week of the season. The Rockies will travel to San Diego and Los Angeles for three games apiece, playing in parks that are far less favorable than Coors Field, where Rosario spent the last week terrorizing the opposition.

Rosario went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI against the Diamondbacks on Friday. It was one of Rosario's better games of the season as he pumped up his slash line (.270/.306/.435) on the year. Rosario has excellent career stats against the Diamondbacks (.333 AVG, 6 HR and 14 RBI in 96 at-bats), so more to come is likely on the way over the weekend for those lucky enough to have him roster.

Rosario knocked out four hits, including a double and a two-run walk-off homer, in Thursday's victory over the Diamondbacks. Long-frustrated fantasy owners who stuck with Rosario the whole way are finally being rewarded, as he's hit safely in six straight and has nine hits -- including two homers and two doubles -- and seven RBI in his last three games.

Rosario went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers. Rosario was one of six Rockies to finish with multiple hits as the team rolled to a 16-2 victory in the series finale. Though he's delivered two pleasing performances in a row, his overall .257/.295/.415 batting line has made him mostly a disappointment this season.
