Rosenthal worked around a hit in a scoreless ninth inning against the Cardinals on Tuesday en route to his seventh save of the season. He struck out two batters.
EDGE Analysis
Rosenthal was back where it all started for him in St. Louis, and he made things very interesting by allowing a one-out triple and then plunking Kolten Wong. However, Rosenthal buckled down and retired Tommy Edman and Paul Goldschmidt to shut the door. He now has a 1.46 ERA and it sounds like Rosenthal is one of the more likely relievers to be traded by this year's deadline, with Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reporting that "many" people around baseball expect him to be moved.

Rosenthal picked up the save in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Reds by recording the final out of the game via strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
Brad Keller nearly went the distance, but after Keller put a couple runners on in the seventh, manager Mike Matheny turned to his closer. Rosenthal shut the door and is now 6-for-6 in save chances with a 0.87 ERA to begin the season. The veteran was DFA'd by the Tigers last year and then was not promoted to the Yankees' expanded September roster, but the Royals had faith and that faith has been rewarded so far.

Rosenthal recorded his fifth save of the season Saturday, walking one and striking out three in a scoreless seventh inning during the second game of a doubleheader against the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
With his fastball topping out at 99.6 mph, Rosenthal seems all the way back to the form he had with the Cards before his 2017 Tommy John surgery. The 30-year-old right-hander has converted all five of his save chances this year, and he has a 0.90 ERA and 13:4 K:BB through 10 innings.

Rosenthal issued three walks in the ninth inning against the Reds on Wednesday but escaped with his fourth save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Rosenthal tried his hardest to give this one away, but the Reds let him off the hook. Cincinnati bunted into a forceout after a leadoff walk, and after two more walks, Christian Colon grounded into a double play. It was a far cry in terms of performance from Rosenthal's first eight appearances, but he got the job done regardless and is now 4-for-4 in save situations this season.

Rosenthal allowed one hit while striking out three over 1.1 scoreless innings against the Twins on Saturday en route to his third save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Rosenthal got the save for the second straight day and at this point has separated himself as the clear closer in the Royals' bullpen. Manager Mike Matheny has a history with Rosenthal and obviously still has faith in him when the game's on the line; that faith has been rewarded so far as Rosenthal has a 1.29 ERA, 0.57 WHIP and 10:0 K:BB in seven innings.

Rosenthal struck out two in a perfect ninth inning against the Twins on Friday en route to his second save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Called upon to protect a one-run lead, Rosenthal retired Marwin Gonzalez, Mitch Garver and Nelson Cruz, fanning Cruz on a 97.9-mph fastball. Rosenthal had a 13.50 ERA between Washington and Detroit last season, but he impressed as a non-roster invitee to spring training to earn a roster spot. While Greg Holland got the Royals' first save, manager Mike Matheny seems to have a certain comfort level with Rosenthal in the ninth after their time together in St. Louis.

Rosenthal picked up the save Thursday against Detroit, completing a scoreless ninth inning and allowing one hit while striking out one.
EDGE Analysis
Kansas City's closer situation remains unpredictable -- last year's fireman Ian Kennedy has yet to be given a save opportunity while veterans Rosenthal and Greg Holland have each notched one save -- so it's anybody's guess how (or if) the role will eventually be settled. Rosenthal had not recorded a save since 2017 prior to Thursday's outing, though he has racked up as many as 48 in a single campaign. That could help him earn more ninth-inning chances down the line, especially given his strong spring-training showing prior to the shutdown of play.

Rosenthal separated himself as one of the team's best relievers in camp, according to general manager Dayton Moore, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
He and Greg Holland represented a couple former closers on minor-league deals with camp invites, but only Rosenthal has earned a spot on the 40-man roster already, while Holland has not yet been added. Rosenthal gave up just three hits while issuing zero walks and striking out nine in five innings this spring. It's a very small sample, but those eye-popping numbers and Moore's glowing praise of the veteran reliever make him one to watch if Ian Kennedy falters at all in the ninth inning.

Rosenthal's contract was selected by the Royals on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Rosenthal endured a disaster of a season in 2019, his first season back from Tommy John surgery. In 15.1 innings for the Nationals and Tigers, he posted a 13.50 ERA, a 2.41 WHIP and a 30.6 percent walk rate. He's evidently done enough to convince the Royals that things have changed, however. The 29-year-old has 121 career saves to his name and could theoretically enter the ninth-inning picture this season if he is indeed back to his previous level of performance. Eric Skoglund was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Rosenthal (calf) is expected to pitch during Friday's Cactus League game against the Giants, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rosenthal was expected to pitch during Tuesday's spring game but was scratched due to the calf issue. The quick return to game action indicates the injury was never a serious concern.
