A trip to the injured list will ensure that the 30-year-old reliever is feeling 100 percent during his next time on the mound. Gott currently holds a 3.38 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 31 strikeouts through 26.2 frames out of the bullpen.

Gott (0-2) took the loss in extra innings against the Blue Jays on Saturday, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk without retiring a batter.

Called on in a tie game for the second time in as many days, Gott once again faltered. Saturday, his troubles began immediately when he allowed a Vladimir Guerrero single that advanced inning-opening runner Bo Bichette to third base and then surrendered a game-winning single to Daulton Varsho after intentionally walking Matt Chapman. After opening the season with five straight scoreless appearances, Gott has now surrendered at least an unearned run in five of his subsequent eight outings.

The veteran right-hander saw a streak of four appearances without allowing an earned run snapped when he surrendered a go-ahead single to George Springer in the sixth inning that would prove to be the difference in the game. Friday's stumble notwithstanding, Gott has been a relatively effective asset out of the bullpen in his first Mariners season, posting five holds alongside a 2.57 ERA and 1.07 WHIP across 14 innings over 13 appearances.

Gott has a 2-0 record, 6.35 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 5.2 innings over six Cactus League appearances.

Gott has actually been much more effective than his ERA and WHIP would indicate, as the bloated figures are essentially the byproduct of one poor outing against the Guardians on Feb. 28. The veteran right-hander allowed four earned runs on two hits and two walks over two-thirds of an inning, but Gott has otherwise fired five scoreless frames during which he's conceded four hits while recording three strikeouts. Gott is expected to be a key middle-innings asset for manager Scott Servais after posting 11 holds alongside a 4.14 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 45 appearances for the Brewers in 2022.

Gott will head to the West Coast after spending the 2022 campaign with Milwaukee. He served as one of the Brewers' most dependable arms during the 2022 season, finishing with a 4.14 ERA and 1.03 WHIP to go with a 44:12 K:BB across 45.2 innings. Gott is a much-needed addition for the Mariners, who have little veteran experience in the bullpen outside of Paul Sewald, Andrew Munoz and Diego Castillo.

Gott sustained a right forearm strain in mid-August but was cleared to resume throwing later in the month. He spent the last week and a half on a rehab assignment and struck out five in 3.2 scoreless innings over three minor-league appearances. It's possible the right-hander serves as an occasional setup man down the stretch.
