Wood was released by the Padres on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Wood will hit the open market after being designated for assignment earlier in the week and subsequently passing through waivers untouched. The 30-year-old southpaw struggled in 2017, posting a 6.80 ERA and 1.73 WHIP across 94 innings split between the Royals and Padres. While his 4.00 ERA from 2010-2016 will likely help him latch on elsewhere, Wood's days as a viable fantasy option may ultimately be behind him.

Wood was designated for assignment Sunday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Wood was designated for assignment to make room on San Diego's 40-man roster. He had a down season in 2017, accruing a 6.80 ERA over 94.0 innings with both the Royals and the Padres, likely prompting this roster move. There's a good chance that Wood will be picked up off of waivers, as the 30-year-old looks to have several good years still left in the tank.

Wood (4-7) took the loss Monday against the Dodgers, allowing six runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two in 4.2 innings.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw had the tall task of taking on You Darvish and a 99-win team, but he did little to limit the damage. Wood allowed runs in all but one inning he pitched and only threw 62 of his 107 offerings for strikes. He may not make another start this season, leaving his final ERA and K:BB at rough 6.80 and 65:45 marks, respectively.

Wood (3-3) tossed six innings of two-run ball Tuesday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out three and picking up the win over the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Wood had given up 15 earned runs over his last two starts, so it's understandable if fantasy owners bypassed this surprising start against a dangerous Arizona lineup. It wasn't all roses for the veteran southpaw, as he gave up two more homers to bring his season average up to 1.8 HR/9 through 89.1 innings. Wood should be considered a low-end streaming option in his last scheduled start of the season against the Dodgers next Monday.

Wood (3-6) was hit hard in Tuesday's loss to the Twins. He allowed a career-high nine runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out two over 2.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Wood allowed a whopping ten baserunners and was only able to record five outs in Tuesday's disastrous outing. The 30-year-old has now allowed 15 earned runs over his past two starts and has raised his ERA to an unsightly 6.80 on the season. The Padres are currently rolling with a six-man rotation, but Wood could soon find himself out of a starting job if his struggles continue.

Wood (2-2) lasted just two innings Tuesday, giving up seven runs (six earned) on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in a losing effort against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Wood was able to to hit a home run for the second consecutive start, but he also failed to complete five frames on the mound in both outings. The veteran southpaw has provided mixed results since joining the Padres' rotation (5.03 ERA), so it will be tough to trust him in his next start against the Twins next Monday.

Wood danced around 10 baserunners (four walks) while holding the Giants scoreless over 4.1 innings Wednesday. He struck out one and did not factor into the decision in a 5-0 win.
EDGE Analysis
Wood pitched in and out of trouble all night, but a high pitch count (97 pitches) led to an early hook and no win for his fantasy owners. The 30-year-old's poor control (4.1 BB/9) and susceptibility to the long ball (1.7) have limited his value in seven starts with the Padres. Wood shouldn't be considered anything more than a low-end streaming option in deep leagues when he takes on the Cardinals next Monday.

Wood gave up five runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out three over five innings Friday. He received a no-decision in an eventual 8-6 loss to the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Wood labored through five innings (100 pitches) and was victimized by Giancarlo Stanton home runs on two separate occasions. This was the second time he surrendered five earned runs in his last four starts. The soft-tossing lefty has struggled limiting the long ball (1.9 HR/9) since joining the Padres' rotation July 28. That said, Wood has performed well in three home starts (2-0 with a 1.00 ERA), giving him streaming appeal in deeper formats. The 30-year-old's next outing comes in the friendly confines of Petco Park in a favorable matchup against the Giants next Wednesday.

Wood (2-1) was charged with one unearned on three hits over seven innings to earn the win over the Nationals on Saturday. He issues two walks and struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
It wasn't the same vaunted Washington lineup we've seen for most of the year -- they were without Daniel Murphy in addition to Bryce Harper (knee) -- but it was an impressive effort nonetheless. Wood caught the Nats looking at 19 called strikes, and he has now allowed a total of two earned runs in his last three starts (17 innings). Assuming all of the other Padres starters stay on schedule, Wood will face the Marlins in Miami his next time out.

Wood allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision Monday against Philadelphia.
EDGE Analysis
Wood has managed just one start of more than five innings since entering the San Diego rotation on July 28. He owns a 5.57 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over his four starts in Padres uniform, and despite 22 strikeouts in just 21 innings, he looks to be a fantasy non-factor the rest of the way.
