Yankees designated 1B Travis Ishikawa for assignment. Ishikawa was thrown off the 40-man roster on Thursday to open a spot for Derek Jeter, who is finally ready to return from the disabled list. Ishikawa went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in his short stay with the Yankees.

Making his Yankees debut, Travis Ishikawa was pulled in favor of Lyle Overbay after striking out in both of his at-bats Monday against the Royals. Both are left-handed hitters, so it wasn't a great sign for Ishikawa that the Yankees felt the need to pinch-hit Overbay for him. It only made things worse for him when Overbay homered in his place and then walked to try to start a ninth-inning rally in what turned out to be a 5-1 loss. It seems like a pretty good guess that Overbay will get the start on Tuesday.

Orioles purchased the contract of 1B Travis Ishikawa from Triple-A Norfolk. Ishikawa utilized the opt-out clause in his minor league deal over the weekend, so the Orioles added him to the major league roster rather than let him go. The 29-year-old was batting .316/.413/.525 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 49 games this season in Triple-A. He's making the start of the DH spot and could see semi-regular playing time in the short-term.

Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette said Tuesday that he is "leaning toward" calling up Travis Ishikawa. Ishikawa opted out of his minor league contract over the weekend, so the Orioles have until midnight ET to make a decision on whether to call him up or release him. While they have explored trade possibilities, they have been unable to find a satisfactory deal. The 29-year-old was batting .316/.413/.525 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 49 games this season at Triple-A Norfolk.

Travis Ishikawa has opted out of his minor league contract with the Orioles. The Orioles still have 48 hours to either call him up or trade him, but the likeliest scenario is that he gets released. Ishikawa has batted 316/.413/.525 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 49 games this season at Triple-A Norfolk and could possibly find a bench job at the big league level somewhere.

Travis Ishikawa plans to opt out of his minor league contract with the Orioles on Saturday. Ishikawa tried for an early opt-out this week but it was denied by the O's. The 29-year-old first baseman has batted .316/.413/.525 with seven home runs and 31 RBI in 49 games this season at Triple-A Norfolk and should draw a good amount of interest as a free agent.

Orioles reassigned 1B Travis Ishikawa to minor league camp. Ishikawa signed a minor league contract with the O's in mid-December and failed to earn a major league roster spot this spring. He'll function as organizational depth.
