Todd Redmond pitched seven innings of one-run ball and struck out seven in a win over the Yankees on Thursday. It's not all that shocking that Redmond is having some modest success in the majors, but that he's managed 73 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings while facing an AL East schedule qualifies as a big surprise. It also provides some hope that he can help the Blue Jays next year. The home run ball is always going to be an issue, though. He gave up his 11th tonight, a solo shot to Curtis Granderson in the sixth.

All of which isn't to say that Redmond hasn't been a pleasant surprise. He has been, and has likely done enough to secure a rotation spot for at least a few more turns. Redmond remains 1-1 to go with a 3.32 ERA over 43 1/3 frames.
