Cishek earned the save Tuesday, firing a scoreless inning against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Despite not going Monday, manager Joe Maddon indicated regular closer Brandon Morrow was unavailable for a planned second straight day off in this one after pitching in consecutive games over the weekend. In his stead, Cishek has been a reliable option all season long, with a 1.96 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 45 strikeouts in 41.1 innings and now three saves.

Cishek (2-0) recorded the win Thursday against the Dodgers by tossing 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. He gave up a walk and struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Cubs starter Jose Quintana was shaky through five innings, and he actually came out with Chicago down 3-1, as Clayton Kershaw held the Cubs in check. However, Chicago got to the Los Angeles bullpen, which set Cishek up for the win with his strong relief work. The veteran righty has been good all season out of the Cubs' bullpen, as he now has a sparkling 1.75 ERA to go along with the two wins and two saves.

The Cubs will utilize the best matchups in the ninth inning with Brandon Morrow (back) on the 10-day DL, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports, which figures to put Cishek in the mix for saves in the near future.
EDGE Analysis
Cishek has recorded two saves this season, most recently picking one up on June 9 when the Cubs decided to rest Morrow. Pedro Strop and Justin Wilson figure to be in the mix for saves as well, but Cishek's experience (123 career saves) could give him a leg up. It's unclear exactly how long Morrow will be sidelined at this point, so Cishek could be a good speculative add for owners in need of saves.

CIshek and fellow picher Brian Duensing both appeared in left field in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers, though neither player had a fielding chance, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cishek started the eighth inning on the mound, but after allowing a leadoff single to Orlando Arcia, Cubs manager Joe Maddon got creative. He brought in the lefty Duensing to face the left-hand hitting Eric Thames but shifted Cishek to left field rather than the bench. After Duensing struck out Thames, Cishek swapped the two pitchers, allowing Cishek to pitch to the right-handed Lorenzo Cain. Duensing ended up finishing the inning by retiring the left-handed Christian Yelich. "I have a whole new perspective when playing the outfield," said Cishek, who made his MLB debut there. It's unclear if Maddon will employ this strategy much going forward, though he's certainly known for thinking outside of the box.

Cishek recorded his fifth hold of the season in Friday's win over the Mets, retiring a single batter via strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran reliever has been a great addition for the Cubs, as he now has a 1.75 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 25.2 innings of work. Brandon Morrow has been stellar in the closer's role, but if he ever gets hurt or just needs a day off, Cishek would likely be next in line for saves at this point given his strong performance and experience closing out games for Miami and Seattle.

Cishek tossed 1.2 perfect innings in Sunday's loss to the White Sox with three strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Cishek needed 20 pitches to retire five hitters, and the smooth outing brought his season ERA down to a tidy 1.96. Brandon Morrow is doing fine as the Cubs' new closer, but Cishek would likely be the go-to option if Morrow needed rest or suffered an injury.

Cishek notched his first save of the season in Monday's win over the Rockies by recording the final two outs of the game. He walked one and struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
Regular closer Brandon Morrow had appeared three times over the past four days, so manager Joe Maddon mixed things up in the ninth inning on Monday. Lefty Brian Duensing recorded the first out of the inning before Cishek shut the door. The veteran righty now has a solid 2.70 ERA, and it looks like he'll be first in line for saves whenever Morrow needs a day off.

Cishek was the winning pitcher on Opening Day against the Marlins, giving up a hit and a walk over 1.2 scoreless innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
Cishek made his Cubs debut earlier than anticipated, as he came on for an ineffective Jon Lester in the fourth inning. He got the final two outs in that frame, then worked through the fifth. Cishek has ample closing experience and could get some save opportunities when Brandon Morrow needs a day off, but manager Joe Maddon showed on Thursday that he's willing to use the veteran early in games, too.

Cishek could pick up occasional save opportunities on days when closer Brandon Morrow needs rest this season, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cubs manager Joe Maddon identified both Cishek and Justin Wilson as options to spell Morrow when needed. Cishek has 121 career saves, so it makes sense that he'd get some looks in the ninth. And if Morrow falters or goes down with injury, Cishek could find himself as the primary end-game option after posting a strong 2.01 ERA and 0.90 WHIP a season ago.

Cishek has agreed to a two-year deal with the Cubs, pending a physical, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Cishek started his age-31 season with the Mariners, but was shipped to Tampa Bay in a July trade. Since landing on the Rays, the reliever was marvelous, sporting a 1.09 ERA across 24.2 innings. His strikeout rate also climbed a bit up to 9.5 K/9, which is right in line with his career average. As long as the physical checks out, Cishek will compete with Brandon Morrow and Carl Edwards for a late-inning, higher-leverage role.
