Shane Greene Records 27th Save rotoballer.com Wed 8/22/18 7:15 AM

Detroit Tigers closer Shane Greene pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday to help the Tigers hold on against the Cubs, recording his 27th save in the process. The reliever walked one and struck out one, but ultimately escaped unscathed. The save followed strong performances all around by Tiger pitchers, including Jordan Zimmermann's one-run outing and scoreless innings by Drew VerHagen and Joe Jimenez. Greene now has a 3.78 ERA on the year and, despite the Tigers' struggles, is an asset[...]

Week 19 MLB Closers and Saves Report rotoballer.com Fri 8/3/18 3:45 AM

With the non-waiver trade deadline now a few days behind us, we can confidently say: "a lot happened." But, seemingly more so than other trade deadlines in previous seasons, this time around we can also say: "a lot didn't happen." Zach Britton changed teams, to a team that absolutely no one suspected. Brad Hand changed teams. Also to a team not very highly suspected, and to a role much more confusing than his previous one. Keone Kela moved, but Shane Greene stayed put. Kyle Barraclough stayed[...]

Shane Greene Logs 23rd Save rotoballer.com Thu 8/2/18 6:29 AM

Detroit Tigers reliever Shane Greene closed out Wednesday's victory with a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 23rd save of the season. Greene walked one batter and struck out one as well. He's allowed four earned runs since returning from the disabled list (shoulder) on July 13th, and has converted all but three save chances this season. His 4.11 ERA is less than stellar, but he's not in any danger of relinquishing his closing role.

Today and every Tuesday moving forward throughout the 2018 MLB season, we will take a deep dive into some of the lesser-owned relief pitchers on the market that are worth keeping tabs on. This can be a good tool for those in deeper holds leagues, although any pitcher in a position to make a move on their respective team's closer job will get priority. Below are my relief pitchers to target for Week 18 of the fantasy baseball season, based on today's trade deadline. Let's get to it. [...]

Dodgers Eyeing Shane Greene rotoballer.com Thu 7/26/18 8:02 AM

The Los Angeles Dodgers were eyeing Detroit Tigers closer Shane Greene before his injury and have had scouts watching him in recent days. Greene would just be a setup man to closer Kenley Jansen in LA, so he'd lose most of his fantasy luster with a trade to Hollywood. If Greene is traded, Joe Jimenez would likely move back into the closer's role in Detroit.

Detroit Tigers closer Shane Greene closed to the door on the Kansas City Royals on Monday night, putting the final touches on a 5-4 comeback win for his 20th save of the year. Greene allowed just one hit and didn't walk or strike out anyone in the process. He is now 20-for-23 on save opportunities and this outing lowered his ERA to 3.86. Greene has been a consistently solid closer all season, and his high strikeout upside figure to keep him fantasy-relevant for the remainder of the year in all [...]

This article is the third in our series on trade targets for the second half of the season. Part 1 focused on players generally ranked in the top 50. Part 2 focused on mid-tier and bargain targets for offense. This installment focuses on pitchers ranked outside the top 50. Part four will focus on players to target for specific categories rather than positional improvement. For these pitchers, I've included both ownership levels and consensus rank (CR) to indicate their current valuation and r[...]
