Oberg was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Oberg will take the roster spot of Adam Ottavino (oblique), who was sent to the disabled list in a corresponding roster move. The 28-year-old owns a solid 1.88 ERA and 0.98 WHIP across 14.1 innings with the Isotopes this season, but his 6.55 ERA across 11 frames with the Rockies will likely limit him to low-leverage work out of the bullpen during his time in Colorado.

Oberg was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

Oberg's 2018 season hasn't gone too well to this point. The righty has appeared in 10 games (11 innings), allowing eight runs on five walks and 12 hits in that time. In a corresponding move, the Rockies selected Brooks Pounders' contract from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Oberg was tagged with a blown save Tuesday against the Padres after allowing a run on one hit and one hit batsman.

The right-hander was vying for a bullpen spot out of spring training, and he managed to grab the spot thanks in part to the injuries to Carlos Estevez (oblique) and Jeff Hoffman (shoulder). Two of Oberg's outs this season have come via the strikeout, but the walk and hit batsman are less than ideal given his past control issues. As a result, he'll likely be limited to low-leverage situations while in the majors.

The right-hander doesn't have the sexiest stat line this spring, but it seems like he could start the season in the majors since Carlos Estevez (oblique) won't be ready for Opening Day. The 28-year-old Oberg finished last season strongly by producing a 2.03 ERA in the month of September, but his career 5.05 ERA and home park of Coors Field limit any upside.

Oberg finished the regular season with a 4.94 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP in 58.1 innings pitched.

EDGE Analysis

Although he spent some time at Triple-A during the summer, the right-hander wound up being one of the most heavily used relievers in September. He responded well, producing a 2.03 ERA while striking out nearly a batter per inning in 14 appearances. Oberg finally showed some swing and miss in his game this season, and if he can continue to improve his control issues, his extreme groundball tendencies could help him carve out a big role in the Rockies bullpen during the postseason and throughout the 2018 campaign.

Oberg has appeared in 49 games for Colorado thus far in 2017, posting a 5.91 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 42.2 innings out of the bullpen. He will likely be deployed in low-leverage situations, as he's been pretty inconsistent while on the mound, posting 40 strikeouts but giving up 18 bases on balls this year.

The Rockies are bringing up a couple fresh bullpen arms in Shane Carle and Carlos Estevez to replace Oberg in the bullpen for the time being. He has a 5.91 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 40 strikeouts in 42.2 innings this year.

Oberg holds a 5.35 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP in 35.1 innings pitched in the first half of the season.

EDGE Analysis

Oberg has been fairly inconsistent in an otherwise rock-solid bullpen, although he did manage to keep opponents off the scoreboard in eight of his past 10 outings. The right-hander also has 10 holds on the season, but given his elevated 3.3 BB/9 and his shaky performances earlier in the season, it's unlikely that he'll see too many high-leverage situations moving forward.

EDGE Analysis

The 27-year-old has yet to find his footing with the Rockies this season and has especially struggled at Coors Field with a 7.24 ERA and .321 opponent batting average. Oberg has six holds on the season but has yet to prove he can be relied upon as a consistent bullpen piece.

Oberg has allowed five earned runs in 6.1 innings of work in the month of May.

EDGE Analysis

After a serviceable month of April to open up the season, Oberg has been considerably shakier in his past nine appearances. His command was worse, as he walked four batters and uncorked three wild pitches in that span, but it also came with eight strikeouts over that period. He seems to be locked into a middle-relief role for the foreseeable future.
