Cubs transferred OF Ryan Sweeney from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster. Sweeney fractured his rib Saturday when he crashed into the outfield wall. He won't be eligible to return until the end of August.

Cubs placed OF Ryan Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured rib. Sweeney suffered the injury Saturday when he crashed into the outfield wall. He's expected to be sidelined for 4-6 week. Julio Borbon and Brian Bogusevic will handle center field while Sweeney and David DeJesus are out. The Cubs will make a corresponding move prior to Tuesday's game.

Ryan Sweeney left Saturday's game against the Mariners with rib soreness. Sweeney hurt his ribs when he crashed into the outfield wall in the third inning of Saturday's game. The Cubs say he's day-to-day, so it likely won't require a DL stint. Julio Borbon took his spot in the lineup.

Ryan Sweeney left Saturday's game after the third inning due to an apparent injury. The speculation is that Sweeney hurt himself making a catch in the third inning. Julio Borbon took over for him in center field.

Ryan Sweeney tallied a career-high six RBI in the Cubs' 14-6 rout of the Astros on Sunday afternoon. Sweeney picked up his first RBI on a second-inning groundout, his second RBI on a third-inning double, his third RBI on a fifth-inning double and the other three RBI on a seventh-inning home run. It was a big 3-for-5 performance from the 28-year-old outfielder, who entered play Sunday with a pedestrian .280/.338/.382 career slash line.

Ryan Sweeney doubled and ripped a two-run homer in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. Sweeney's two-run blast in the first inning gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead, which turned out to be all they needed. Cody Ransom followed Sweeney with a solo shot of his own. Sweeney is batting .312 with a couple homers in 34 games for the Cubs and will be playing regularly while David DeJesus is out. He's worth owning in NL-only formats.

Ryan Sweeney went 3-for-4 with an RBI against the Angels on Wednesday, lifting his average to .351. Sweeney has just 37 at-bats since joining the Cubs a month ago, but he's done well with them, hitting a homer (he had none in 204 at-bats last year) and walking five times. If he keeps it up, another team may want to pick him up to serve as a fourth outfielder.

Cubs purchased the contract of OF Ryan Sweeney from Triple-A Iowa. Sweeney was raking to the tune of a .337/.396/.627 batting line at the Triple-A level, but he seems doubtful to hold much fantasy value. The 28-year-old outfielder is a .280/.338/.378 career hitter in the majors.

The Cubs are planning to promote outfielder Ryan Sweeney from Triple-A Iowa before Tuesday's game. Chicago opens a two-game set with the rival Cardinals on Tuesday night at Wrigley Field. Sweeney, who's been killing the ball at Triple-A Iowa, will take over for struggling backup outfielder Dave Sappelt on the Cubs' active roster. This is not a move that needs to register on fantasy radars.

Cubs signed OF Ryan Sweeney to a minor league contract. Sweeney, who was released by the Red Sox over the weekend at his request, will report to Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs don't have a whole lot of outfield depth at the big league level, so it's not a bad landing spot for the 28-year-old. "I've just been home for the last few days working out," Sweeney said. "They want me to go get some at-bats and hopefully I'll be up pretty quick."
