Though he gave up two runs on three hits and two walks over an inning of duty, Brothers escaped with his fourth victory of the season in Sunday's win over the Reds in Game 1 of a doubleheader. In surrendering two runs, Brothers put the Rockies at a 9-5 deficit entering the bottom half of the ninth inning, but the team improbably rallied for five runs to steal the game. The win does little to improve the rest-of-season outlook for Brothers, who sports a bloated 4.93 ERA and won't see many holds with the Rockies owning one of the worst records in the MLB.

Rex Brothers suffered an ugly blown save Monday against the Padres, walking three batters and allowing two runs in the eighth inning of a 5-4 loss. Against the Padres in San Diego, walking batters as a reliever is an unforgivable sin. As such, Brothers will be in confession tomorrow. Colorado's primary setup man issued free passes to Xavier Nady, Seth Smith and Yonder Alonso around a pair of outs that ended up in Charlie Blackmon's glove. A wild pitch scored Nady, while a Wilin Rosario throwing error plated the winning run in Smith. Brothers has taken the loss in consecutive games. He's no threat to LaTroy Hawkins at the moment.

Rex Brothers struck out one in a perfect inning of work against the Cubs on Wednesday. Brothers was exquisite last season, finishing with a 1.74 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings. While the Rockies brought in LaTroy Hawkins to close, Brothers may end up getting some occasional saves depending on how frequently manager Walt Weiss wants to play the match-ups.

Rex Brothers took his second blown save and first loss after giving up two runs in the ninth Friday against the Padres. It was Brothers' first blown save in 16 chances as a closer. The other blown save came in the seventh inning of a game against the Giants back in May. Brothers has definitely been shaky these last few outings, but his job is secure.

Rex Brothers walked two in the ninth on Sunday, but escaped the inning unscathed in earning his 13th save of the season against the Marlins. Brothers struck out two in the inning. The 25-year-old southpaw has strung together five consecutive scoreless appearances and has whiffed at least one batter in nine straight outings. Brothers is 13-for-14 in save conversions and boasts a 1.46 ERA over 59 appearances. With Rafael Betancourt sidelined with a potentially serious elbow injury, Brothers has a good chance to end the season as Colorado's closer.

Rex Brothers surrendered a run on two hits against the Pirates on Friday, but still managed to secure his eighth save of the season. Brothers allowed an RBI double to Pedro Alvarez, but was able to pitch his way around any further damage. He owns an outstanding 1.39 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 46/22 K/BB ratio through 45 1/3 innings on the season. With as well as he's pitched, it seems possible he'll remain in the closer's role for the remainder of the season, even after Rafael Betancourt returns from the DL.
