Reed Johnson (Achilles) is still not feeling strong enough to attempt to sprint. Johnson has been out for a month with left Achilles tendinitis and hasn't made much in the way of progress. He's taking batting practice everyday, but he's obviously still a ways off from game action.

Johnson tried to do some light jogging last week and still felt some discomfort, so he's restricted to batting practice until there's some improvement. "It's not ready yet," said Johnson. "It's going to be a little bit I think." The Braves remain hopeful that he'll be ready to return before the end of the season.

Braves placed OF Reed Johnson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with left Achilles tendinitis. Johnson aggravated his Achilles during Sunday's game and will require an extended absence. The Braves have called up outfielder Todd Cunningham from Triple-A to take his place on the active roster.

Since being acquired from the Cubs last summer, Johnson has appeared in 56 games for the Braves and has just eight runs scored and four RBI. He has a little value in NL-only leagues with Jason Heyward out, but he's probably not going to be much of an asset.

Reed Johnson will start in right field for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rockies. Johnson is filling in for Jason Heyward, who underwent an appendectomy late Monday night. The 36-year-old is starting against the left-hander Jeff Francis and figures to split playing time in right field with Jordan Schafer. The Braves could also give Evan Gattis a look in the days to come.
