Michael Taylor has not played in a week due to a lacerated right pinkie. Taylor managed to cut himself while throwing his gum out of the car. It's not clear at this point how much longer he's expected to be sidelined.

Michael Taylor is taking ground balls at first base this spring to increase his versatility. "I'm just trying to be as versatile as possible, and if I can do that hopefully create more value for myself," said Taylor, who has never played first base as a pro. The 27-year old is following the lead of teammate Brandon Moss, who made the same transition last season. Taylor has had some success in the minor leagues, but it has yet to translate in the majors. Increasing his versatility only stands to help the former top prospect.

Athletics outfield prospect Michael Taylor has traveled to Baltimore to be with the team and could be added to the roster if Coco Crisp (ear) needs to go on the disabled list. Taylor is batting .366 with two homers, 17 RBI and four steals in 19 games for Triple-A Sacramento.

Michael Taylor was not in Sunday's lineup, despite A's manager Bob Melvin saying he would be. "I put my foot in my mouth there," Melvin said. "I'll ease him in against some lefties. I jumped the gun on that one. ... He might play tomorrow. He's not here to sit, that's for sure." Taylor was a major disappointment in 2010, but the 25-year-old showed some signs of life this season by batting .272/.360/.456 with 16 homers, 14 stolen bases and an .816 OPS over 400 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. He's worth monitoring in AL-only leagues.
