Padres activated 1B/OF Mark Kotsay from the 15-day disabled list. Kotsay rejoined the Padres late last week after going 0-for-4 in a rehab game with High-A Lake Elsinore on Wednesday, but he is now officially on the active roster. The 36-year-old will serve as a reserve outfielder and backup first baseman.

Padres placed outfielder Mark Kotsay on the 15-day disabled list with a right calf strain. Kotsay closes out spring training with a .345/.412/.414 triple slash in 29 at-bats. He literally will limp into the regular season.

Mark Kotsay is nursing a right calf strain. The Padres will see how he recovers over the next couple days before deciding if he needs a DL stint. "We have a 2 or 3 day window to watch it and see how Mark does," manager Bud Black said.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Padres have reached a one-year, $1.25 million deal with Mark Kotsay. The contract will be finalized once Kotsay passes a physical. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder batted .270/.329/.373 in 255 plate appearances this past year for the Brewers. He'll be a backup in San Diego.

Mark Kotsay belted a solo homer in the Game 3 NLCS loss to the Cardinals. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke earned some criticism for his decision to start Kotsay in center field. The move looked dubious early on after the veteran was doubled off of second base in the top of the first inning and then failed to get to a bloop hit in the bottom of the inning. But, he did a fine job at the plate, drawing two walks in addition to the solo blast. He might have earned another shot in Game 4 against Kyle Lohse.

Mark Kotsay will start in center field and bat second in Game 4 of the NLCS against the Cardinals on Wednesday. Brewers manager Ron Roenicke decided against using Carlos Gomez in Game 4, but will surprisingly go with Kotsay instead of the struggling Nyjer Morgan. Kotsay, 35, made just nine starts in center field during the regular season.

Mark Kotsay tripled and homered while driving in three runs on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough for the Brewers in their 9-7 loss to the Twins. He tagged Nick Blackburn for a solo shot in the third inning before tripling home two runs an inning later. A nice day for Kotsay, but he's not about to come into any fantasy value in NL-only leagues.
