The Nationals are nearing a one-year contract with Mark DeRosa, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. DeRosa drew interest from several clubs this winter despite posting a rough .279/.351/.302 batting line over 97 plate appearances in 2011. The Nats will hope for better, and that he can stay healthy for more than a quarter of a season. DeRosa will likely function as a utility infielder in Washington.

Mark DeRosa (wrist) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with High-A San Jose. DeRosa is slated to play there Saturday and Sunday before joining Triple-A Fresno. The veteran utility man is trying to play through a partial tear of a tendon in his left wrist, so he's far from a sure thing moving forward.

Mark DeRosa (wrist) is expected to start a rehab assignment just after the All-Star break. DeRosa was diagnosed back in mid-May with a torn ECU tendon in his left wrist, but he'll do his best to try to play through the injury. There's no timetable for his return, and the odds that the wrist will hold up for the duration of the second half aren't good.
