Parra (neck) was reinstated from the 15-day DL prior to Monday's matchup against the Rockies. A neck strain has kept the long reliever on the shelf since April 23, but Parra now appears ready to contribute following a short rehab stint. He'll take the roster spot of Devin Mesoraco (hip), who was placed on the disabled list in a corresponding move.

Parra (neck/elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday. Parra has been on the disabled list since Apr. 29 due to a strained neck, and he recently dealt with some tenderness in his elbow. The more recent injury is apparently minor, so Parra should be back in the Reds' bullpen within the next week or two.

Parra (neck) had a bit of a setback involving his elbow and does not have a return date projected yet. Parra originally was expected to have a minimal DL stay, but he's going to need additional time. "He had a little bit of elbow tenderness that has been completely checked out. I don't want to say it's a non-issue ... but it's been checked out," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It's part of the aches and pains of throwing the baseball. He's getting very close to being back pitching again."

Parra was placed on the 15-day DL Wednesday. Parra hasn't pitched in a game since last Thursday, and now the reason has potentially been revealed. The fact that he hasn't pitched works in his benefit, however, as his DL stint can be backdated to Apr. 24. It's unclear if he'll be ready when first eligible, but his progress over the next week or two should shed a little light on the situation.

Parra failed to retire a batter while getting the loss against the Cubs in extra innings Monday night. He walked two lefties (Anthony Rizzo and Chris Coghlan), bracketing a single by Jorge Soler. He also threw a wild pitch. Parra now has four appearances and has allowed three hits and three walks in that time, retiring only three batters. The Reds' bullpen is a mess right now, and Parra is a significant part of the problem.

Parra is among the relievers that the Reds are considering for their eighth inning role, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Back and neck injuries effectively ruined Parra's season after a decent first month. He's still more of a specialist than a flamethrower that can slam the door late.

Manny Parra has been unavailable the last few days due to a stiff back. "He has a little bit of back stiffness," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It is not something I wanted to announce to our opposing team. His back has been acting up and he's been unavailable." Parra hasn't appeared in a game since July 20, but it appears that he'll avoid the DL.

Reds manager Bryan Price revealed Wednesday that Manny Parra went 12 days in between appearances because he'd been dealing with a "cranky" shoulder. Parra last pitched on June 29 before retiring the only batter he faced on one pitch Tuesday. It appears the shoulder is no longer a concern. "His shoulder was cranky," Price said. "We worked through that, he could have pitched, but we felt if we didn't pitch him, it gave him a better chance to continue without any flare-ups. By the end of that San Francisco series, he was feeling much better."

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Reds have re-signed left-hander Manny Parra to a two-year, $5.5 million contract. Parra was effective out of the Reds' bullpen this past season, posting a 3.33 ERA and 56/15 K/BB ratio over 46 innings. It looks like the 31-year-old has finally found his niche.
