Grimm was released by the Cubs on Thursday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm agreed to a $2.2 million salary for the upcoming season after losing his arbitration hearing earlier in the offseason, but the Cubs will only have to pay a portion of that since arbitration contracts aren't fully guaranteed. The right-handed reliever is coming off another lackluster season for the Cubs, as he posted a 5.53 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 55.1 innings. He's now seen his ERA jump by more than a point in each of the previous two seasons. Grimm still struck out more than a batter per inning (9.6 K/9), but his home run (2.0 HR/9) and walk (4.4 BB/9) rates were both too high. He'll now look to latch on elsewhere as a middle reliever.

Grimm will make $2.2 million in 2018 after losing his arbitration case, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm came in at $2.475 million. The reliever appeared in 50 games for the Cubs in 2017, posting a rough 5.53 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a 59:27 K:BB in 55.1 innings. His FIP suggested that the ERA was fairly accurate and some of that can be attributed to a huge spike in HR/9, as he gave up 2.0 after being under 1.0 in each of the previous three seasons.

Grimm pitched a scoreless ninth inning to collect his first save of the season during Friday's win over Cincinnati.
EDGE Analysis
Interestingly, Grimm blew a save Thursday against St. Louis, so seeing him right back in the closer role to against the Reds on Friday was a little surprising. However, Chicago rested regulars again in this contest. After being a key cog in the bullpen in the past, Grimm has struggled this season with a 5.53 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Manager Joe Maddon could be turning to Grimm in higher-leverage situations to help build the reliever's confidence entering the postseason.

Grimm (finger) was activated from the 10-day DL prior to Friday's game against Atlanta, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm wound up missing two weeks with a finger infection, but appears ready for action after tossing in a couple rehab outings with Triple-A Iowa this past week. Throughout the course of the 2017 season, Grimm has accumulated a 5.40 ERA with a 46:23 K:BB in 43.1 relief innings.

Grimm (finger) will be activated from the 10-day disabled list Friday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm, who has been sidelined since Aug. 18 with a finger infection, is ready to rejoin the big-league bullpen after getting through a pair of minor-league rehab appearances with no issues. He'll return to pitching low-leveraging innings out of the Cubs' bullpen once he's activated Friday.

Grimm allowed two hits and struck out two in a scoreless inning of work for Triple-A Iowa during a rehab appearance Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
This was Grimm's second rehab appearance for the Iowa Cubs this week, and he shouldn't be too far away from rejoining the MLB roster. When he does return, Grimm is expected to work in low-leverage situations out of the bullpen.

Grimm (finger) will make his second rehab appearance for Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Bruce Miles of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm was originally supposed to pitch for Iowa on Thursday, but inclement weather bumped his start up by a day. The 29-year-old allowed one run in one inning of work during his first rehab appearance. Barring any setbacks in Wednesday's outing, Grimm shouldn't be too far from rejoining the big club. When he does return, Grimm is expected to work in low-leverage situations out of the bullpen.

Grimm (finger) is set to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm has been throwing off a mound for a few days now, and since he's experienced no issues with gripping the ball following a bout with a finger infection, the Cubs will have him test things out in game action. The right-hander is expected to work in low-leverage situations once he comes off the 10-day disabled list.

Grimm (finger) will toss a bullpen session Saturday, and could embark on a rehab assignment if all goes well, Mark Gonzales of The Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm has been out for the past week while recovering from a finger infection. He appears to be nearing activation, and should only need a game at the minor-league level before rejoining the big-league team. Upon his return, Grimm will slide into the bottom of the Cubs' bullpen, and is unlikely see much high-leverage work moving forward.

Grimm will be placed on the 10-day DL prior to Friday's series opener against the Blue Jays due to a finger infection, Paul Sullivan of The Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Grimm took the loss during Thursday's roller coaster affair with the Reds, giving up two earned runs during an inning of work. It appears as though he was dealing with an infection on the index finger of his pitching hand, as he will miss some time while recovering from the setback. Along with Jon Lester (shoulder, lat), the two pitchers will hit the disabled list as Felix Pena and Rob Zastryzny have already been called up from Triple-A Iowa.
