Marlins signed OF Juan Pierre to a one-year, $1.6 million contract. On the surface, it seems like a solid deal for both parties. The Marlins get an inexpensive veteran who should provide a strong presence at the top of the lineup, while Pierre receives the opportunity to secure everyday at-bats. The 35-year-old outfielder offers little in the power department, but Pierre is a strong three-category contributor in fantasy leagues and should have no difficulty accumulating 40 or more steals in 2013.

According to Craig Mish of Sirius XM, the Marlins have signed free agent outfielder Juan Pierre. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed. The 35-year-old outfielder hit .307/.351/.371 with 37 stolen bases for the Phillies in 2012. Pierre previously played with the Marlins from 2003-2005, and will presumably see regular starts in left field for Miami in 2013.

Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reports that the Orioles are interested in a trade for Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre. Pierre wouldn't be eligible for the postseason roster, but he could help soften the blow of losing Nick Markakis. As of now, the Phillies aren't motivated to move him, possibly because they are playing better recently and still have an outside chance at the playoffs. Orioles manager Buck Showalter will likely mix and match with Lew Ford, Nate McLouth, Chris Davis and Xavier Avery in the corner outfield spots for now.

Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Juan Pierre has cleared revocable waivers. Morosi thinks a deal involving Pierre could be completed sometime today, though he didn't list potentially interested teams. The Reds had interest in him before the deadline, but it's doubtful they'd still want him following the rise of Ryan Ludwick.

Juan Pierre went 3-for-4 with an RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases in Monday's win over the Reds. The Phillies hit three over the boards against the Reds, but Pierre hurt them with some small ball. Pretty quietly, the veteran outfielder has had a nice fantasy season, batting .312 with 31 steals.

According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Reds' coaching staff "loves" outfielder Juan Pierre. And the Reds believe Pierre would be a "perfect fit" for their roster down the stretch, adds Nightengale. The veteran speedster is batting .306/.346/.373 this season with 23 stolen bases in 27 chances. Philly should be plenty open to moving him before Tuesday's deadline.

Juan Pierre went 2-for-3 with a double and his sixth stolen base in Wednesday's win over the Cubs. The two-hit night was Pierre's sixth in 14 May games, and leaves him with a highly surprising .340/.387/.379 triple slash through his first 112 plate appearances. He'll need to start stealing bases with greater frequency to hold his 10-12 team mixed-league value, however.

Juan Pierre is batting .292/.292/.292 through his first 24 plate appearances this season. A bizarre batting line, but one which sums him up pretty well. While Pierre figures to hit for a decent batting average, he doesn't walk much and won't hit for any power. It's true that he'll accumulate some stolen bases, but he has a lousy 62 percent success rate (29-for-47 in stolen base attempts) since the start of last season. There's some value here in NL-only leagues, but he is more likely to hurt at the top of the Phillies' lineup than help.

Phillies purchased the contract of OF Juan Pierre. In other words, he has landed a spot on the Phillies' 40-man roster and should be a member of the bench on Opening Day. Pierre is 15-for-48 with three steals this spring.

Juan Pierre can opt out of his minor league contract with the Phillies if he's not on Philadelphia's big league roster on March 31. It shouldn't be a problem, as most assume Pierre's spot is all but assured. "Obviously, he's not the same player he had been, but he's still a guy that can help us offensively, especially with his speed," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "He had a very, very good year last year. He had more hits than anybody on our team." Amaro is clearly exaggerating Pierre's effectiveness last season, as he batted .279/.329/.327 with two homers, 50 RBI and a .657 OPS over 711 plate appearances and also went a career-worst 27-for-44 in stolen base attempts, but he should make for a decent fourth outfielder.
