Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports that there has been no contact between the Royals and Jose Mijares over the past eight days. Mijares has not reported to Royals' camp due to visa issues in his native Venezuela and it's not clear when the matter will be resolved. The 27-year-old signed a one-year, $925,000 contract with Kansas City in December after being non-tendered by the Twins.

Jose Mijares has not reported to Royals camp due to visa issues in his native Venezuela. The Royals aren't concerned, according to the Kansas City Star's Bob Dutton, because Mijares made a handful of appearances in winter ball and won't require much of a spring workload. He should report sometime soon.

Royals signed LHP Jose Mijares to a one-year contract. No word yet on the financial terms of the deal. Mijares was non-tendered by the Twins earlier this month after posting a disappointing 4.59 ERA and 30/30 K/BB ratio over 49 innings of relief in 2011. The Royals will use him as a lefty specialist next season.

Twins non-tendered LHP Jose Mijares. A minor surprise since Mijares was only projected to make around $1 million next season. The 27-year-old southpaw posted a 4.59 ERA and 30/30 K/BB ratio over 49 innings this past season. He has been effective against left-handed batters during his career, so he shouldn't have any trouble finding a new home.

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Twins are looking to trade left-hander Jose Mijares. Just about every contending team could use a left-handed reliever, but Mijares is not the most attractive option. The 26-year-old has posted a 5.47 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and 16/21 K/BB ratio in 36 appearances this season. He's allowed a .271 batting average to left-handed hitters.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he and pitching coach Rick Anderson will have a discussion over the All-Star break on what to do with the struggling Jose Mijares. Mijares has the potential to be nasty, but he just hasn't been himself this season, posting a 5.49 ERA, 1.98 WHIP and hideous 12/17 K/BB rate. It would probably be good for him to get some time at Triple-A Rochester to try to iron out his issues. Chuck James could get the call to replace him.
