Lucroy was added to the Red Sox's 60-man roster Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Boston adjusted Lucroy's contract earlier in the week with the intention of adding him to the player pool, and Thursday's announcement makes it official that he'll serve as a non-roster invitee as camp resumes. He'll likely compete for the backup catching job with Kevin Plawecki.

Lucroy's name was left of Boston's 60-man player pool, but he will be added to the list, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Sox are adjusting Lucroy's contract, so his exclusion from the player pool is a procedural issue. He will be in camp and added to the pool. Lucroy and Kevin Plawecki are battling for the backup job to Christian Vazquez.

The Red Sox will have the flexibility to keep both Lucroy and Kevin Plawecki if MLB expands rosters from 26 to 29 players for the first month of an abbreviated season, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The two catchers are locked in a roster-spot battle to back up starter Christian Vazquez, but each could be carried if the rosters are temporarily expanded as expected. The freedom to keep three catchers is something upon which interim manager Ron Roenicke went back-and-forth prior to the shutdown. With the expanded rosters, he'll have a free month of regular-season competition to evaluate which is the better fit. From a batting perspective, neither Lucroy (6-for-20, .300) nor Plawecki (9-for-19, .474) separated himself from the other during spring training.

Lucroy went 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in Wednesday's spring game against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
Lucroy is catching regularly after he was signed during the early days of spring training. He's hit safely in four of his last six at-bats after a 2-for-14 start in the Grapefruit League. "Yeah, I'm seeing the ball good and I've been able to see the ball deep and I've been able to put good swings on it and make good decisions," Lucroy told Ian Browne of MLB.com. "I'm definitely feeling a lot better." Lucroy and Kevin Plawecki (.474) are competing to back up starter Christian Vazquez.

Lucroy made his spring debut Thursday, substituting for designated hitter J.D. Martinez and going 1-for-2 in a loss to Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
Lucroy wasted no time making an impact, as he connected on a pinch-hit double off the replica Green Monster in the bottom of the seventh inning. He and Kevin Plawecki are competing to back up starter Christian Vazquez. Red Sox interim manager Ron Roenicke envisions Lucroy seeing his first game behind the plate this weekend, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. Entering his age-34 season, Lucroy is no longer viewed as a primary catcher.

Lucroy agreed Tuesday with the Red Sox on a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
As he heads to Boston, Lucroy will find a familiar face in interim skipper Ron Roenicke, who previously managed the backstop in Milwaukee from 2011 and 2015. Lucroy is well removed from his prime years with the Brewers, but his skills as a pitch framer and ability to take a walk could be enough for him to beat out Kevin Plawecki for backup duties behind No. 1 catcher Christian Vazquez. Heyman notes that Lucroy underwent a disc replacement procedure for his neck early in the offseason, but the 33-year-old will report to camp at 100 percent health.

Lucroy is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Saturday's game against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Lucroy will be making his second straight start behind the plate after going 1-for-3 in Friday's contest. In five games since joining the Cubs, the veteran catcher is 5-for-15 with two RBI and a run. He'll continue to battle with Victor Caratini for playing time.

Lucroy signed a contract with the Cubs on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
EDGE Analysis
This isn't all too surprising, as the Cubs -- who are in need of catching depth after trading away Martin Maldonado and losing Willson Contreras to a hamstring injury -- expressed interest in Lucroy after he was released by the Angels earlier in the week. The veteran backstop owns a .242/.310/.371 slash line with seven home runs and 30 RBI in 74 games this season. He figures to split time behind the dish with Victor Caratini until Contreras returns sometime next month. Per Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic, Lucroy will join the Cubs in Cincinnati on Thursday.

Lucroy was released by the Angels on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Lucroy went unclaimed after getting designated for assignment on Friday. The 33-year-old doesn't offer all that much at the plate any more, as his 84 wRC+ this season is his best mark since 2016, but he still seems to be at least major-league caliber player. He could find work if a team loses its catcher to injury at some point down the stretch or simply wants to upgrade its backup spot.

Lucroy was designated for assignment by the Angels on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Lucroy was activated off the injured list Wednesday but lasted only one game before being jettisoned from the 40-man roster. It seems possible the Angels attempted to find trade partners at the deadline but were unable to reach a deal, so they opted to DFA the veteran backstop. The 33-year-old had a .242/.310/.371 slash line with seven home runs in 74 games. Lucroy is a prime candidate to be released since he can refuse an outright assignment to Triple-A and can no longer be traded.
