Peralta (thumb) was able to participate in fielding drills Sunday, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
EDGE Analysis
It marked Peralta's first on-field workout since he underwent surgery on his left thumb back on March 10. Peralta is still sporting a cast around the thumb to offer an extra layer of protection, but he nonetheless seems to be progressing quicker than the club had initially planned. The Cardinals are currently projecting Peralta to begin a rehab assignment around May 21, and if that plan holds, we could see the shortstop make his season debut with the big club at some point in June.

Peralta (hand) had his cast removed Monday after receiving a good report from his doctor, Chris Hrabe of KMOX reports.
EDGE Analysis
This marks the first progression in Peralta's comeback from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. The shortstop will wear a splint for the time being and will be reevaluated in a few weeks. His return date is still somewhat murky, but a timetable for his return could become clearer following the upcoming evaluation.

Peralta (hand) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Peralta is expected to be sidelined through at least the next couple months while recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb, so his DL move was fully anticipated. With Ruben Tejada (quadriceps) also beginning the season the DL, Jedd Gyorko is expected to serve as the Cardinals' everyday shortstop.

Peralta (thumb) will be in a cast for four weeks following Thursday's surgery, and he is expected to return close to the All-Star break, ESPN's Mark Saxon reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is the clearest timetable we have heard regarding Peralta's thumb injury, but it is more of an educated guess from Saxon than a strict timeline from the Cardinals medical staff. With Peralta likely out for half the season, the Cardinals will have some decisions to make. General manager Jon Mozeliak acknowledged that other teams have come "ambulance chasing," but that the Cardinals want to see what they have internally before making a move to fill the hole at shortstop. Jedd Gyorko and Aledmys Diaz are the two players in camp vying for playing time at short, with Gyorko representing the more established big league bat, and Diaz offering better defense with the upside to be a league average hitter with minimal power/speed production.

Peralta underwent surgery on his left hand Thursday morning, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Peralta was given a timetable of 2-to-3 months for a return after the initial diagnosis was a torn ligament in his left thumb. Despite the seemingly successful surgery, a more distinct time frame for recovery has yet to be announced.

Peralta underwent an MRI on his left thumb Monday, and early indications are that he likely tore a ligament, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports. Peralta could miss 2-to-3 months.
EDGE Analysis
The timing is extremely unfortunate for the Cardinals, who may have been interested in bringing in a player like Ian Desmond as a replacement had the injury occurred a week earlier. Instead, they'll likely have to look in-house with Aledmys Diaz, Jedd Gyorko and Greg Garcia being the most obvious potential fill-ins. Of course, there's always the possibility of bringing in outside help, but the Cardinals figure to wait until they have an official recovery timetable before considering their options.
