Braves recalled RHP Jair Jurrjens from Triple-A Gwinnett. He'll get the ball Friday in Boston. Jurrjens held a 9.37 ERA and 2.45 WHIP in four starts for the Braves earlier this season before being sent down, and he held just a 5.27 ERA in nine outings in the minors. He'll surely improve, but he's got an awfully tough matchup right out of the gate.

Jair Jurrjens will be recalled to start on Friday against the Red Sox in Boston. The Braves delivered the news to the right-hander on Sunday. As you recall, Jurrjens was banished to the minors in late-April after opening the season with an ugly 9.37 ERA, 2.45 WHIP and 8/10 K/BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings over four starts. The 26-year-old right-hander hasn't been much better at Triple-A Gwinnett, going 3-4 with a 5.27 ERA in nine outings. "He's made some progress," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "His velocity has been up there. There's some separation there with his change-up, so we're going to give him a shot. He's been an All-Star; he has the experience. Give him an opportunity again. I'm curious when he comes back to see how he pitches." We're all curious. But only owners in deeper NL-owner leagues should put him in active lineups for this coming week.

Jair Jurrjens was shelled for 11 runs (10 earned) Wednesday in 4 2/3 innings for Triple-A Gwinnett. Jurrjens allowed 12 hits and two walks in the disastrous effort. He's expected to climb back to the major league level at some point this summer, but it won't be happening anytime soon. The 26-year-old right-hander can be dropped in non-keeper fantasy leagues.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said there's no timetable for Jair Jurrjens' return to the majors. "It wasn't like he was going out on a rehab assignment," Gonzalez said. "Without making this sound cruel, he's a minor league player right now. He's doing his part and hopefully that continues. Nobody wants to have $5.5 million sitting down in Triple-A. When he's ready and we think he's ready." Jurrjens was sent down after posting a 9.37 ERA in his first four starts for the Braves, but he's rebounded at Gwinnett, holding a 1.80 mark in two outings. We can't imagine he'll be down there much longer if he keeps it up.

Jair Jurrjens tossed seven innings of one-run ball Sunday in his first start since being demoted to Triple-A Gwinnett. Jurrjens gave up just four hits while striking out four and walking three. He threw 54 out of 93 pitches for strikes and topped out at 90 mph on his fastball. It's a step in the right direction, though he'll need to do more to earn his way back to the big leagues. He had an ugly 9.37 and 8/10 K/BB ratio in four starts prior to his demotion.

Jair Jurrjens will make his first start for Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. Jurrjens was optioned to Triple-A last week after being wildly inconsistent and struggling with a 9.37 ERA through his first four starts. He'll have to regain his velocity and his confidence before he returns to the Braves' rotation.

Braves optioned RHP Jair Jurrjens to Triple-A Gwinnett. The announcement was made after Jurrjens gave up five runs in just three innings Monday night against the Dodgers. The 26-year-old right-hander now has an ugly 9.37 ERA, 2.45 WHIP and 8/10 K/BB ratio in 16 1/3 innings over four starts this season, so the Braves hope a trip to the minors will be able to get him back on track. Randall Delgado's spot in the rotation is safe for now while Tim Hudson (back) figures to come off the disabled list at some point this weekend.

Jair Jurrjens was tagged for five runs in three innings by the Dodgers on Monday. With Randall Delgado not really impressing, Jurrjens is likely safe for now, even with Tim Hudson coming back. Still, there hasn't been much positive to take away from his efforts. He didn't strike out a single batter while allowing nine hits tonight. Eight of those nine hits were singles and even the other was only a double, but he needs more swings and misses to succeed.

The Braves are no considering bumping the struggling Jair Jurrjens from the rotation when Tim Hudson (back) returns. Jurrjens has been out-pitched by Randall Delgado, but it's still expected to be Delgado that gets demoted later this month. Manager Fredi Gonzalez also noted that Jurrjens' surgically-repaired knee isn't an issue. "He was out here hitting and running around earlier," Gonzalez said. "He was fine. Every pitcher goes through a little funk." We do expect Jurrjens to turn it around eventually, but he should be benched in fantasy leagues for now.

Jair Jurrjens was not at his finest against the Brewers on Friday, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings. Jurrjens has really struggled through each of his first two starts this season. Although somewhat extreme, if he continues to pitch poorly, he may be at risk of losing his spot in the rotation upon Tim Hudson's return.
