The New York Yankees officially released outfielder Aaron Hicks on Friday to make room for rookie right-hander Randy Vasquez, who will make his major-league debut on Friday in a start against the San Diego Padres. Hicks was designated for assignment last weekend and went unclaimed on waivers. The Yankees will now pay the majority of the remaining $27.6 million that remains on the 33-year-old's contract.
