The Rangers and OF David Murphy avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $3.625 million contract. Murphy was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter. The 30-year-old earned $2.40 million last season while batting .275/.328/.401 with 11 homers, 46 RBI and a .729 OPS over 440 plate appearances. He should remain a useful part-time player for the Rangers in 2012.
