The Padres selected Aybar's contract Tuesday, and he has been officially named the team's starting shortstop.
EDGE Analysis
He hit .275 with a .700 OPS, one home run and one stolen base in 51 spring at-bats, beating out Luis Sardinas for the starting gig. Aybar is a bottom-three fantasy option among starting shortstops, as he projects to offer very few counting stats relative to his playing time. At best, he might offer an empty batting average in the .265 range with a handful of steals.
