The Marlins purchased Lombardozzi's contract from Triple-A New Orleans on Wednesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Adeiny Hechavarria (oblique) was the latest Marlins infielder to hit the disabled list Wednesday after Martin Prado (hamstring) and Miguel Rojas (thumb) preceded him earlier this week, so Lombardozzi was brought in to add some insurance around the diamond. It's not expected that Lombardozzi, who last appeared in the big leagues in 2015 with the Pirates, will see meaningful at-bats, but he should act as the top backup at multiple spots until the Marlins are able to get either Hechavarria or Prado back from injury.
