Smith (elbow) will report to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The veteran righty has been on the shelf since early June with elbow soreness, and he's progressed to the final stage of his recovery. Smith should require a couple appearances in the minors and could rejoin the Astros over the weekend or early next week.
