Soriano signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Tuesday, Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reports. As expected, Soriano and the Cubs were able to work out an agreement, bolstering the team's bullpen depth. It's unclear how much time the 35-year-old reliever will need in the minor leagues before he's a candidate to join the big-league club, but Soriano could eventually be an option in the ninth inning. Hector Rondon served as closer for the first two months of the season, but with Rondon struggling recently, manager Joe Maddon said the team won't have fixed bullpen roles for the time being. Accordingly, Pedro Strop and Jason Motte both picked up saves over the weekend.
