Ross was designated for assignment Saturday, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports. He was barely playing for the A's, so when they needed to open up a spot on the 40-man roster, he was an obvious candidate. He will now go through waivers and could end up getting claimed by someone looking for a right-handed bench bat.
