Rienzo was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte following Thursday night's game, MLB.com reports. Rienzo appeared four times since his most recent call-up, but allowed two or more earned runs in all but one of those appearances. With Zach Putnam (shoulder) slated for a Friday activation, the White Sox needed to free up a roster spot, and the struggling reliever was deemed expendable.
