Punto was released by the A's on Friday, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. Punto had been signed to a two-year deal before the 2014 season, but was released today to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. In his one season with the the A's, Punto struggled with injuries, appearing in only 73 games, hitting .207 over 198 at-bats. He will likely find a spot on a Major League roster as a utility infielder before Spring Training.
