Gonzalez began playing in games with the Gulf Coast Astros on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The veteran utility man is playing in his first game with the rookie-level Gulf Coast Astros on Tuesday, and it seems likely that he'll move up to Triple-A Sugar Land after he gets a few contests under his belt. Gonzalez could be a candidate to receive a major-league call-up at some point in September, but he'll need to show the Astros that he's capable of improving on the .202/285/.566 slash line that he posted across 271 plate appearances with Boston earlier this season.
