Pirates designated 1B Garrett Jones for assignment. Jones was due a raise this winter in his third year of salary arbitration and the Pirates didn't want to pay it after watching him bat just .233/.289/.419 across 440 plate appearances in 2013. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter does have some decent raw power and should be able to attract interest from multiple teams.
