Paulsen was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Nick Kosmider of the Denver Post reports.

Stephen Cardullo was brought up in a corresponding move, and while Cardullo has played mostly in the outfield corners this year with Albuquerque, he could see some chances at first base along with Daniel Descalso. Paulsen flopped in his audition in place of Mark Reynolds (hand), going 3-for-26 with nine strikeouts, but he figures to be back in early September.
