Nieuwenhuis was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday. Nieuwenhuis has struggled this season, going 6-for-60 between the Mets and the Angels. Because he's out of options, he had to clear waivers to be sent straight to Triple-A Las Vegas. He will try to round back into form and eventually compete for an outfield spot for the Mets.
