Nathan (elbow) signed a major league contract with the Cubs on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
Nathan is still in the process of recovering from Tommy John surgery, but the Cubs decided to take a flier on the veteran reliever and sign him for bullpen depth. The 41-year-old had been an effective closer, saving 35 games as recently as 2014, but it's unclear when (or if) he'll return to appear in the Cubs bullpen. The Cubs moved him to the 60-day disabled list to avoid making any moves to their current 40-man roster.

This seem like a decent move to add bullpen depth for the playoffs, which does look like an area of need. Probably a low-risk move as well, as they will be able to find out if he can pull it off.

At 41, however, my guess is no.
