Montero has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for a banned substance, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Specifically, Montero was flagged for a stimulant called dimethylbutylamine which is banned under the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The 26-year-old had put together a solid year, batting .317/.349/.438 in 126 games with Triple-A Buffalo, but he was passed over for a September callup and this suspension will ultimately overshadow his accomplishments. Once considered a top prospect, Montero was suspended in 2014 following an incident with a Mariners scout and he may now be out of chances with big-league organizations.
