Middlebrooks (lower leg strain) will begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Low-A Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports.

He will DH for the Tiber Rattlers on Wednesday and is expected to play at least two games in the Midwest League before moving up to a more advanced level. The Brewers probably won't activate Middlebrooks until rosters expand in September, at which point he will occupy a part-time role.
