Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News reports that the Yankees have signed Matt Diaz to a minor league contract. He's been given an invitation to spring training and will stand a good chance at earning an Opening Day roster spot as a platoon mate with Ichiro Suzuki in right field. Diaz was limited to 51 games in 2012 and is coming off thumb surgery, but he's a career .324/.364/.498 hitter against left-handed pitching. It could wind up being a nice little risk-free signing for the Bombers.
