With Drew Pomeranz looking like he will be ready to go for the start of the season, Kendrick has officially lost out on his bid for a rotation spot. However, he was the most impressive of the starters who will open the year at Triple-A, so he could be up with the big league team if there is a need for an emergency starter. He has an opt out on June 15, so he will serve as organizational depth for Boston until at least that date.
