Jose Mijares has opted out of his minor league contract with the Red Sox and is now a free agent, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The 29-year-old southpaw looked to be a nice buy-low add by Boston over the winter even coming off a disappointing 2013 campaign in which he appeared in 60 games for the Giants and collected a 4.22 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 54/20 K/BB ratio over 49 innings. The left-handed specialist entered last season with a 3.00 ERA over 264 career appearances and will soon procure another minor league deal, this time with a team that isn't so stacked with bullpen options.
