Johnson hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2013 and is coming off a third Tommy John surgery, so chances at a return to the majors are likely slim. The right-hander was among the best in the majors when he was healthy, but those days are long gone and his stuff has almost certainly been diminished by all the surgeries he's undergone. This is a pure lottery ticket for the Giants.
