Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that the Phillies are interested in free agent Jason Kubel. Kubel is likely a fall-back plan if the Phillies are unable to reach an agreement with his former teammate, Michael Cuddyer. Kubel has said that he wants to sign with someone to play the outfield rather than DH, and the Phils would obviously provide him with that opportunity. The 29-year-old is coming off an injury-plagued season that saw him bat .273/.332/.434 with 12 homers and 58 RBI over 401 plate appearances.
