Frieri cleared waivers Sunday and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. The former Angels closer has seen his stock tumble since the start of 2014, as sky-high home-run rates continue to be his downfall. He's served up a staggering 17 long balls across just 65 innings in the majors the last two seasons, with the Rays determining that keeping him on the 40-man roster was no longer tenable. Frieri will attempt to rectify his issues with keeping the ball in the yard in the minors before earning his way back to the big leagues.
