Frandsen was released by the Nationals on Wednesday, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports. The Nationals' recent acquisition of Matt den Dekker likely caused Frandsen to lose out on winning a reserve gig with the big club. With an assignment to Triple-A Syracuse likely not attractive to Frandsen after he spent all of last season in the majors, the Nationals decided to release him and let him pursue opportunities with another organization.
