Fernandez will make his first start of the regular season April 6 against the Tigers, Shandel Richardson of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rather than giving Fernandez the Opening Day start, the Marlins will grant those honors to free-agent pickup Wei-Yin Chen. It's likely just a small way for the Marlins to delay Fernandez's innings count for the season from starting up, as the 23-year-old is still clearly the ace of staff, even after his return from Tommy John surgery limited him to 11 starts in 2015. Fernandez ended last season with his health fully intact, and should be in line for star-level production in most of his 2016 starts with his velocity back at its pre-surgery levels.
