Cardinals placed RHP Jake Westbrook on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 22, with a lower back strain. It's probably a phantom injury, as Westbrook was poised to lose his rotation spot, anyway. He'll likely be used in long relief when he returns next month. Carlos Martinez has been recalled to take Westbrook's roster spot and will also likely assume his spot in the rotation.
