Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York reports that the Yankees are "pessimistic" about signing Scott Hairston. The feeling is that he'll get more at-bats elsewhere, which could be a hint that he's leaning toward a return to the Mets. The Yankees are also reluctant to hand out any multi-year deals. Hairston's agent, Casey Close, said Monday that his client should make a decision on where he'll sign within "a matter of days."
