The right-hander threw 13 pitches during a simulated outing in Arizona on Saturday, with his fastball checking in around 89-to-91 miles per hour. If he continues to make velocity gains and avoid any further setbacks, Alvarez could serve as a bullpen option for the Athletics later in September.
