Blanco was placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday with a right shoulder impingement.

Gorkys Hernandez will join the major league club for the first time this season with Blanco slated to miss at least a couple weeks as a result of the shoulder injury. Blanco has struggled to the tune of a .225/.310/.313 line in 101 games this season, but he's the Giants' top reserve outfielder (pretty much by default) since he can play center field. He figures to return to that role once healthy.

Blanco got the start in left field in place of the injured Angel Pagan (groin). He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Sunday's loss to the Mets.

Pagan pulled up with a groin injury during Saturday night's contest, opening the door for Blanco to get a start Sunday.
